STOCKTON HOST SCHOOLS TOURNAMENTS

It’s been a busy few weeks at Stockton RFC, hosting several schools competitions.

100’s of local primary school kids descended on our Grosvenor Road site with the Stockton Schools Games Partnership to develop their rugby skills and compete for a spot in the Tees Valley Tag Rugby Finals. Coaching delivery and Refereeing at these events was assisted by young leaders from Ian Ramsey, Our Lady & St. Bede’s and Northfield School, many of whom play their rugby at our club, so a big well done and thank you to them for their amazing efforts!

The skills on show, levels of enthusiasm and standard of sportsmanship was very high and it was an absolute pleasure to host our local SSP.

Earlier in October we also hosted an after school tournament for Year 9 students (U14’s) on behalf of the Durham County Schools Union. Nine schools attended including Our Lady & St Bede’s, Northfield, Egglescliffe, Yarm, High Tunstall from Hartlepool (accompanied our own Liam Ryder) and St Johns from Bishop Auckland. Several of Durham’s Young Match Officials took charge of the games and were supported by John Pearson (who is also Secretary of the Durham Schools Union) and Dave Swainson from the Durham Referees Society.

It was fantastic to see over 100 young men take to the field, having a great time and displaying some great rugby. Many thanks to Stuart Hardy who ran the event on behalf of the Durham Schools Union.
