It is with great sadness that we have recently learned of the passing of Mike Scott, our first ever club coach during the 1972/73 season and into our Centenary Year of 1973/74.
Prior to Mike’s appointment, responsibility for organising and delivering training fell to the 1st XV captain. Mike’s arrival marked a significant step forward in the development of the club.
A native of Kingston upon Hull and a former student of Hymers College, Mike moved to Teesside to work in the chemical industry on Seal Sands. Working closely with then 1st team captain John Moore, he quickly introduced Sunday morning coaching sessions to complement midweek training.
These sessions not only improved performances on the pitch, but also helped to build a strong esprit de corps within the squad, with post-training Sunday lunchtimes becoming a valued and well-attended part of club life.
Mike also broadened the club’s horizons, strengthening links and fixtures with Humberside sides such as Old Hymerians and Marist, where he had strong personal connections.
Mike lived to the age of 90 and remained connected to the club. Just a couple of years ago he visited to see how the seeds he planted over 50 years ago had grown.
His contribution to Stockton RFC was foundational, and his legacy remains part of who we are today.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time. ... See MoreSee Less
It’s game week… or as we’re calling it, the Alternative Rhys Stag Do 🍻🏉
It’s one of those weekends where availability takes a hit (for all the right reasons)… but—and it’s a big however—it gives us a brilliant opportunity to field one of the youngest squads we’ve seen in years.
There’s a real buzz about this group. Energy, pace, and absolutely nothing to lose.
We’re hopeful Harry Williams and Tom Skirving come through fitness checks, which could see us travelling with an average age of around 20-21 👀
Next stop: old friends Peterlee & Horden Rugby Club
