Gateshead’s close defeat to Ryton, means ourselves and Novos are now the only unbeaten sides in the league, both teams have also taken maximum bonus points
Next up it’s away to a resurgent Durham University who took Novos to the wire yesterday
Unbeaten Stockton boasted 14 home grown players out of a squad of 18 as they entertained Bishop Auckland at Grangefield this afternoon. New signing Marcus Sudron was making his second debut from the bench.
From the kick off the visitors dropped the ball and Stockton Fly Half Harry Williams fooled the defence with a side step and dummy to race over between the posts for a try converted by Ollie Shaw.
Bishop came came back almost immediately with a penalty goal from 45 metres, giving Stockton a warning not to infringe too much. Ten minutes in and skipper Charlie Doherty added another try, again converted by Ollie Shaw, and two minutes after this Ollie added a superb individual try when he caught a ball in his own half, then made a break down the left hand touch, and then kicked over the defence to score an unconverted try.
Two more unconverted tries were quickly added by Elliot Shaw and Paul Evans, meaning that only 20 minutes into the game Stockton had score 5 tries and secured a bonus point with the score at Stockton 29, Bisop Auckland 3.
To their credit, Bishop rallied well and added 2 tries either side of half time, one converted, to take the score to 29-15, before Ollie Shaw added 2 more tries, plus 1 try from replacement Devon Douthwaite (this is becoming a habit), all 3 converted by Shaw, to make the final score Stockton 50, Bishop Auckland 15 and keep Stockton second in the league.
